Wine lovers will enjoy an international Winemaker Tasting Panel this year at Savor Dallas featuring an array of wine leaders with experience from around the world. Among the featured panelists are Ralf Holdenried (Germany), winemaker at William Hill Estate; Sergio Cuadra (Chile), winemaker Fall Creek Vineyards; Dr. Richard Becker (Texas), owner of Becker Vineyards.

Ralf Holdenried Ralf Holdenried - A winemaker can spend a lifetime searching for the perfect vineyard. In Ralf Holdenried's case, the vineyard found him. With an eclectic mix of winemaking experience that spans two continents, Ralf is right at home at William Hill's benchland estate along the Silverado Trail in southern Napa Valley. From childhood chores on his family's vineyard in Germany to crafting small lot wines in Napa Valley, Ralf is perfectly poised to bring his wines from the Silverado Bench onto the world stage.
Sergio Cuadra Sergio Cuadra - Thirty years ago, Fall Creek Vineyards co-owners, Ed and Susan Auler, built the Fall Creek  winery facility at Tow, Texas, on the west side of Lake Buchanan in the Hill Country and, from the very beginning of this new enterprise, they have always been focused on “building a Texas wine tradition”.  Now, 30 years later, they are “expanding that Texas wine tradition” with the hiring of world-class winemaker, Sergio Cuadra, who is charged with taking Fall Creek forward into the next decade.  Sergio brings to Fall Creek a  global perspective from his experiences as winemaker at Concha y Toro, S.A., at Caliterra where he worked with the Mondavi Family in partnership and with Australian consultant Kym Milne MW, and at Anakena where he brought Paul Hobbs on as consultant, and, in addition, to working with famed Jacques Lurton of Bordeaux.  Sergio will be researching the perfect match-up of grape varieties to the wide variety of soils the state of Texas has to offer.
Dr. Richard Becker

Dr. Richard Becker - Dr. Richard A. Becker was born in Abilene, Texas, a graduate of Abilene High School and holds B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Texas at Austin in English Literature. He is a 1971 graduate of the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio, Texas.

Dr. Becker and his wife established Becker Vineyards in Fredericksburg, Texas in 1992. He was the President of the Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association in 1997 and 1998. He is also on the board of the Texas Hill Country Food and Wine Festival, Austin, Texas, and the New World Wine and Food Festival, San Antonio, Texas.

Michael Green - Co-moderator

It has been said that listening to Michael Green talk about wine is like witnessing a sensory explosion!  As wine consultant to Gourmet Magazine for 20 years, a highly sought after personality on national television (MSNBC, CNN, The Food Network, Today Show) and at major wine & food festivals worldwide, Michael’s range and depth of experience is unmatched in the industry.  No one is more knowledgeable about wine, or the business and pleasure of food and drink, than Michael Green. And just as important, no one makes the subject as accessible and entertaining. Michael’s relentlessly energetic and utterly accessible style effortlessly blends information and audience engagement into an unforgettable experience that is low-pretense, high-impact, and supremely entertaining. To be sure, his experience and knowledge in the epicurean world put him at the top of his field, but it is his ability to translate that knowledge into the vocabulary of his audience that sets him apart.

Jeff Siegel - "The Wine Curmudgeon"
Co-Moderator

Jeff is known as  the Wine Curmudgeon,  a nationally known wine writer whose  blog is one of the top 100 wine sites in the world and is the wine columnist for Advocate magazines in Dallas. His work has appeared on the Internet, in newspapers, and regional and national magazines, usually focusing on cheap wine. His philosophy is simple: “The wine industry tries to intimidate consumers instead of educating them -- and nuts to that.”
