Savor Dallas is an artful experience
The 7th Annual Savor Dallas, celebrating wine, food, spirits and the arts, might consider all caps for ARTS this year. In addition to wine arts and culinary arts, there is a veritable kaleidoscope of visual arts featured throughout the weekend.
Renowned artist J.D. Miller paints a magical canvas at the Savor Dallas International Grand Tasting on Saturday March 19th (Sheraton Dallas Hotel), and offers it to the evening’s Silent Auction to benefit the North Texas Food Bank. J.D. appears on behalf of Gables Park 17 at the tasting extravaganza, to highlight their on-going commitment to promoting local artists. The Uptown residential community is also site of Savor Dallas’ “Ultimate Friday Night pARTy” on March 18th. Each floor of the 25 story building features the work of local artists, and will be available to view during the party.
Modern sculpturist Nic Noblique unveils new works at Gables Park 17 on Friday, and will also be on display at Savor Dallas during the International Grand Tasting from 7 til 10 p.m. Nic’s unique style is popular throughout the world. Many of his works are on display around Texas. You can view his works at The Cameron Gallery in the Dallas Design District.
Austin artist Kathy Womack, who has made a name for herself with beautiful depictions of “Women and Wine” will be showcased at Savor Dallas in an “Artful Wine Lounge” presented by Ghost Pines and Frei Brothers Winery. Kathy will have a special piece available for sale at the International Grand Tasting, and is also donating one of her works of art to the silent auction to help fight hunger in North Texas.
Nationally recognized artist Richard Nunez, who paints for many celebrities for their charities, including Anthony Hopkins, Anne Hathaway, Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, Usher, and others, will also be painting “live” at the Grand Tasting. Nunez has spent a lot of time in Napa and Sonoma partnering with wineries and charitable causes. At Savor Dallas, he will partner with Terrazas de los Andes, a premium wine from Argentina, to create a work of art for the Silent Auction. View 25 years of art from Nunez by clicking here.
Works from many more great local artists will also be featured at the International Grand Tasting to present a silent auction featuring original artworks made of clay or glass to create unique platters, dishes and plate forms. All auction proceeds from the display will benefit THE EASL FUND which provides limited financial assistance to Dallas/Fort Worth area artists and arts professionals who are in dire temporary distress because of an unforeseen medical emergency or other catastrophic event. EASL (Emergency Artists’ Support League) is a designated fund of the Communities Foundation of Texas, Inc., a tax-exempt nonprofit organization, under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Other great Artists appearing at the International Grand Tasting
Nic Noblique Studios
With a soaring creative drive, Nic Noblique (more conventionally known as Willard Nicolas Poupore) has, in a relatively short time, become one of the foremost abstract sculptors in the United States. His large metal sculptures are on display in such notable environments as - La-Z-Boy Center in Monroe, Michigan; Trinity College in Hartford Connecticut; Chicago’s Navy Pier and The Meyer Theater.
Noblique’s credo - “Art is whatever you can get away with.” Given that statement, you'd think Noblique is a man who doesn’t take his art too seriously and you'd be correct; Nic has fun with his art. His large metal sculptures resemble anything from a bug to completely abstract shapes and are powder coated in fun, vibrant colors. As a child visiting Picasso’s garden in Spain, the 11 year old Noblique found a resonance with his sculpture that went to the very core of his being. On his grandmother’s farm in Abilene, Texas, Noblique allowed his artistic talent to explore creating with metal. With the wide open space his creations grew larger and larger, and he happier and happier. As Nic Noblique gained skill in the craft, he developed a deep conviction that this work was his destiny.
Noblique bases his sculptures on the idea of 3/5/8 mathematical beauty suggesting everything in nature can be broken down into those proportions, that everything is a structural spiral. He uses found metal to create his sculpture on his own monster 20 ton press built to roll the steel. Noblique does everything including the powder coating.
Today Nic Noblique creates with joyful heart. He continues to expand his view of the world with new insights that become delightful manifestations of art for the rest of us to enjoy. Pippin Meikle Fine Art is proud to represent this spirited foray into a realm of ever-expanding imagination, the exciting world of Nic Noblique.
