TAKING A BLOOD OATH: Getting blood sampled to be a bone marrow donor takes about 10 seconds. It's the confidential form beforehand that leaves you dazed. There are overtly intimate questions to screen steroid users and those at risk for blood-borne diseases.

ROCCO KNOWS WHAT'S COOKIN': Rocco DiSpirito, the New York chef who endured the crucible on his NBC reality show, The Restaurant, was in town for the weekend's Savor Dallas food and wine festival. After his duties were done, Rocco headed to Nick & Sam's with executive chef Samir Dhurandhar.
